Dr. Karen Fessel - Insurance Coverage for Autism Services

Mon, Nov 9, 2009: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Come for an evening of conversation and discussion about how to get your health insurance company to pay for autism related interventions.  Find out in advance (ask your employer) if your health insurance is state regulated or self-funded.  Bring your questions and your activism.  Don't take no for an answer!

Karen Fessel is the founder and Executive Director of the Autism Health Insurance Project, which is dedicated to helping families and providers obtain health insurance coverage for medically necessary treatments for clients with autistic spectrum disorders. Relevant work experience includes developing clinical practice guidelines and technology assessments for Kaiser Permanente, serving on the Department of Managed Health Care Autism Advisory Committee, and doing autism research at the California Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities Research and Epidemiology (CADDRE).  Dr. Fessel routinely gives presentations to parents and professionals in the community on how to get insurance coverage for autism treatments.
