Bay Area Association of Disabled Sailors (BAADS)
BAADS is a group of well over 100 people from all around the Bay Area. First and foremost, we are people who love sailing. About half have disabilities. All levels of sailing ability and experience are represented, from raw beginners to veteran racers and world cruisers. About one-quarter are ASA certified skippers, many of whom are disabled and take charge with assistance as requested from able-bodied crew members.
BAADS objectives:
* To provide adaptive boats and accessible marina facilities.
* To develop a group of disabled persons who can complement each other's abilities and form a network of sailing partnerships.
* To provide sailing training and challenges to meet members'desired level of involvement.
The mission of BAADS is to insure that any person with a physical disability has the opportunity to fully participate in recreational sailing not just as a passenger but as a skipper.
