Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in supporting PHP's efforts as a volunteer. Here's where we can use your help!
Volunteer to Support an IEP Training or SIG (Support and Information Group)
Activity: Help with room set-up, make copies, sign in attendees, distribute training materials and PHP information, collect training and membership fees, and provide additional assistance to the PHP Trainer or SIG Facilitator as needed.
Time required: Approximately 1 hour (30 minutes before the training begins and 30 minutes into the training to take care of any late arrivals.)
Frequency: 1-2 times per month - some evenings, some Saturdays depending on the schedule.
No special training required.
Information Systems
Activity: Programmers needed for special projects. Especially, PHP Programming language and Access programming. We would like someone proficient in Microsoft Access and the PHP language to assist us in developing online tools that benefit children with disabilities and special health care needs.

Kids on the Block Puppeteer
Department: Kids on the Block
Activity: This is a great flexible volunteer opportunity. The Kids on the Block are a troupe of puppets that present educational programs to school age children. Scripts cover a variety of topics: disabilities, educational differences, social concerns, medical differences, and safety issues. The shows are performed for limited groups in a classroom or small multipurpose area. This facilitates interaction between students as the (kids) answer questions.
Skills/Training: No experience necessary. Training: 4 - 6 hours; video, booklet and Hands-on.

Touchstone/Meeting
Department: Health Related Services
Activity: Work with children, both ill children and their well siblings. Assist the Children's Coordinator in leading structured play activities at family support meetings.
Skills/Training: Training provided. Should have desire to work with children. No prior experience required.
Days/Times desired: Work on the 3rd Monday of each month from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

Sibshops
Department: Health Related Services
Activity: Provide assistance to the Sibshop Facilitator. Work with children between the ages of 8 and 12 who attend Sibshops, which are workshops for siblings of children who have special needs.
Skills: Training provided and a lot of energy required. Prefer volunteer to be at least 16 years old and enjoy playing recreational games and interacting with children. Days desired: The second Saturday of the month (odd months only) from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Learning Disability Simulations Volunteers
Department: Education
Activity: The LD Simulation is a hands-on simulation designed to increase understanding of the difficulties and frustrations students with learning differences encounter daily. The simulation leads to greater empathy and understanding of the problems and gives insight into working effectively with these individuals. For more information on the simulation click here.
Skills: We need English- and Spanish-speaking volunteers, and volunteers need no previous experience!

- Help with PHP's Annual Holiday Party
