California is facing a budget deficit of more than $14.5 billion. In order to address the budget deficit, the Governor has proposed cuts to most state programs in the 2008-09 budget year as well as the current 2007-08 budget. Many programs that support families of children and youth with special health needs will be impacted*.
Some of those programs are:
- Medi-Cal
- California Children’s Services (CCS) providers
- In Home Support Service
- Regional Center services
- Mental Health Services
- Healthy Families coverage
- Supplemental Security Income/State Supplementary (SSI/SSP)
- CalWorks

Family Voices of California is collecting stories from families of children/youth with special health care needs about the services they use to assist them in caring for their children/youth with special health care needs. These stories will help inform policy makers and the public about the impacts of the proposals on families and their ability to care for their children/youth with special health care needs.
