Yahoo! Employee Foundation awards $32,633 to PHP

(San Jose, CA, June 17, 2009)  The Yahoo! Employee Foundation (YEF), a donor advised fund of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, awarded a grant of $32,633 to Parents Helping Parents. YEF funding will support two of the many PHP programs promoting success for students with learning disabilities (LD).

LD Simulation workshops give parents, siblings, teachers and other professionals a glimpse into life with LD. The hands-on workshop increases awareness of the frustrations and difficulties a child with LD experiences every day, leading to greater empathy and understanding how to help the child.

PHP iTECH Center staff work with each child to identify specific needs and present assistive technology (AT) solutions to try in a low-key, non-sales environment. Solutions range from low-tech reading and writing products to high-tech speech-to-text software.

Founded in 1999, the Yahoo! Employee Foundation (YEF) is a grassroots philanthropic organization. YEF is a unique foundation that is entirely employee driven. All the money is donated by employees, and all activities are run by a volunteer committee of Yahoo! employees. PHP also extends our thanks to our Yahoo! employee champion - Christine Fedrow.
