The mission of Pomeroy Recreation and Rehabilitation Center is to provide recreational, vocational and educational opportunities for people with disabilities through programs and services that encourage self-expression, promote personal achievement, and lead to greater independence.

Currently the Center provides programs for adults, children, teens, and seniors each week with support from dedicated and skilled staff. Volunteers and interns offer additional support throughout the year.

Center facilities include a therapeutic swimming pool, gymnasium, adaptive computer lab, full kitchen, playground, theater with stage, and a community garden with a greenhouse. The Center also provides employment training and job placement for individuals with disabilities and works in cooperation with St. Mary’s Hospital of San Francisco to serve people who have experienced traumatic brain injury.

The Center is one of only a few organizations in Northern California offering weekend overnight respite care, and a Saturday Respite program is available for ages five and up. The programs provides a wide range of recreation activities while giving families or caretakers and persons with a disability time to rejuvenate and rest.

The Pomeroy Recreation & Rehabiliation Centers mission extends beyond San Francisco to include programs and services in San Mateo County.

MANY COMMUNITIES,
ONE CENTER

PRRC is a community center for all. Whether you come here every day or you’ve only attended an event here, you’re part of the family!

Heated Public Aquatherapy Pool
Help your baby learn to swim or get the gentle exercise you need yourself in the Herbst Therapeutic Pool. Our expert swim instructors and our 92-degree water combine to give you a positive learning experience.

Able Gardeners
Part of PRRC’s vocational programming, Able Gardeners provide landscaping services for customers throughout the Bay Area. Hire our capable team to do your planting, lawn care, tree pruning and general yard maintenance.

Traumatic Brain Injury Services
Brainstorm is a unique social recreation and community integration program that serves adults who have an acquired or traumatic brain injury. Participants enjoy a diverse selection of classes that help them develop or relearn valuable skills needed to function as independently as possible in the community.

Children & Teen Programs
We serve young people ages 6 to 22 with disabilities with a range of educational, therapeutic – and fun! – activities. Program takes place after school and during school holidays. Additional programming for youth includes Friday night KidNection and Saturday afternoon Respite.

Adult Day Programs: “OneCenter”
Adults with developmental disabilities enjoy a diverse array of classes in the Center’s innovative OneCenter Program, based on a community college model. Participants, in collaboration with caregivers and staff, select activities that are valuable for their health and wellbeing and that spark their interest.

Vocational Services
Adults and transition age youth interested in working or volunteering receive training to develop soft and hard skills, and receive support in finding, securing, and keeping a job in the community or at the Center. Current clients work in a range of positions at Bay Area businesses.

Respite Services
The Center offers overnight respite care for 8 adults each weekend, providing critical support to families and caregivers who need a break. Guests enjoy healthy meals and snacks, engaging and fun activities, and individual care and support throughout the entire weekend.

Family Councils
Families and caregivers of individuals with disabilities gather regularly to share resources, provide peer support, and receive updates on Center programming. Family members often feel isolated with their concerns and challenges; it is extremely valuable to gather with others and feel a part of a community.

Pomeroy Recreation & Rehabilitation Center and Helpers Community, Inc. formed a partnership in 2019 to open two residential homes for up to 11 adults with intellectual disabilities, plus on-site staff. Helpers owns the properties, and Pomeroy leases, staffs, and populates the homes which are located across from Golden Gate Park. In San Francisco, there is never enough affordable care homes for adults with ID, but together these two organizations are working to make safe places for as many people as possible.
