Access Leisure is a program of the City of Sacramento Department of Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment. Access Leisure provides sports, residential camping and outdoor education as well as social and fitness programs for children, teens, and adults with disabilities.

ACCESS LEISURE CAMPS

CAMP C.O.O.L.

Camp Challenge Ourselves through Outdoor Leisure (C.O.O.L.) is a two-day one-night residential camp for young adults age 10-25 with physical disabilities. Camp C.O.O.L. this year will consist of an exciting two-days of downhill snow ski lessons from the skilled staff of the Achieve Tahoe Program at Alpine Meadows.

CAMP NEJ

Camp NEJ: Surrounded by towering pine trees and located in the beautiful Sierra County Mountains near Lake Tahoe, California, Camp “Nej,” is nestled in the High Sierras, 40 miles north of Truckee (Tahoe). Campers enjoy 1-2 weeks (schedules vary) of wilderness camping under the stars. 1:1 support is provided as needed for each camper.

ROCK N’ ROLL YOSEMITE
A Cycling and Climbing Park Experience. Experience the sights, sounds, and natural wonders of Yosemite National Park. This four (4) day three (3) nights tour will utilize hand cycles to tour the valley floor, including educational programs and is specifically designed for physically challenged individuals.

S.N.O.W. CAMP

Camp Supporting New Opportunities through Winter Sports is a two-day one night residential camp for young adults and adults age 18 and older with Intellectual and or Developmental Disabilities. S.N.O.W. Camp consists of two days of downhill snow skiing and snowboarding at Alpine Meadows with Achieve Tahoe program.

ACCESS LEISURE SUMMER CAMP

Camp “Access Leisure” is proud to provide an enriching summer camp to many young adults, and older, with cognitive, intellectual, and/or developmental disabilities.

The Camp runs from Monday to Friday. Campers, together with their counselors, create a personalized experience based on the camper’s individual ability. Campers can choose from different structured activities, Some camping activities include fishing, arts and crafts, nature walks, swimming, and other special educational outdoor hands-on activities. These activities will increase knowledge and skills learned through outdoor education and overall physical, leisure, and social capabilities. Each participant with develop basic skills and knowledge, along with attitudes to enjoy an outdoor camping experience, as well as fostering their emotional and social independence.

Monthly Calendar

Access Leisure will continue to provide a variety of in-person and virtual program options. If and/or when health guidelines change, program protocols will be updated. Covid guidelines are provided based on the activity you choose. Masks are required indoors at the Hart Senior Center and are currently optional for our outdoor events. All staff, volunteers, and participants complete a health screening before each activity.

Purpose of the Champion Group: Access Leisure staff provides time for parents, family members and care providers of Access Leisure participants to come together to discuss topics as needed. These sessions are meant to be an open discussion and a time to share any challenges you are having as well as a time for us to assist you in finding the resources you and your family need to continue to be healthy at home.
