As we consider legal alternatives concerning decision-making as our youth become more independent, it may be helpful to explore all the options available – and include your youth or adult in this investigation as much as possible. Do you want to know more about supported decision making, conservatorships, and durable powers of attorney in order to make an informed decision for your family?
Please join Teresa Anderson of the CA Policy Center for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and Stephen Dale, Esq. of the Golden State Pooled Trust as they discuss:
– What it means to have capacity to make decisions for oneself
– The concept of Least Restrictive Alternative
– Different tools to assist in carrying out decisions
– Supported decision-making as a tool to assist a person with a disability to make an informed decision
– Powers of attorney and medical directives
– Limited conservatorships to make decisions
The California Policy Center for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (CPCIDD) is a non-partisan, non-profit policy center established to inform, support, and improve upon statewide policies that impact the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Golden State Pooled Trust (GSPT) is a type of special needs trust established by the North Bay Housing Coalition (NBHC) to support persons with disabilities in California.
