Research highlights that early discussions about career goals and work experience gained during school are critical for a successful transition to adulthood. California Department of Rehabilitation The California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) provides specialized services to students with disabilities, ages 16 to 21, helping them explore, plan, and prepare for employment opportunities.

Services are based on the student’s interests, and could include:
– Job exploration to identify and explore careers that match strengths and interests
– Work readiness training focused on understanding what’s needed to get into a chosen career
– Postsecondary counseling focused on education and/or training that support potential career goals
– Work based learning experiences including finding, applying, interviewing, and obtaining paid work experience
– Self-advocacy training focused on being one’s own champion
